Practical information

The practical details, in one place.

What to bring, how referral and payment work, opening hours, cancellation, your rights as a patient and how to raise a concern. If anything is unclear, you are always welcome to contact the clinic.

Patients of Backers Klinik

Your appointments continue. The address changes.

Walsted Lungeklinik continues Backers Klinik. Your existing appointments and ongoing courses of treatment continue unchanged, and your medical record transfers automatically.

From 1 October 2026 you come to Jægersborg Allé 16, 3rd floor in Charlottenlund instead of Strandvejen in Hellerup.

Are you in doubt about anything to do with your own course of treatment? You are welcome to call during phone hours.

Before your visit

A little preparation makes the consultation better.

When you arrive prepared, we can spend the time on what matters: understanding your symptoms and finding the right diagnosis. Below is what to have ready before your appointment.

If you cannot bring everything, come anyway. We manage. Bring what you have.

  • Your health insurance card (sundhedskort).
  • A valid referral sent by your GP to the clinic (see “Referral & payment”).
  • A list of your current medicine and any inhalers, ideally with names and doses.
  • Results of earlier investigations, if you have them (for example lung function or imaging).
  • For athletes: a short audio or video recording of your breathing while you have symptoms, plus a description of your sport, training and triggers.
  • Your reliever inhaler. Always bring it.
  • If your lung function is to be measured, we may ask you to pause some of your inhaled medicine. Only pause if the clinic has asked you to. See the pause times under "lung function test", and call if you are in doubt.

Avoid hard physical exertion and smoking or nicotine in the last hour before your visit. If you are booked for lung function measurement or a challenge test, and you have had an airway infection within the past two to six weeks, please call the clinic, and we will assess whether the appointment should be moved.

Referral & payment

How referral and cost work.

A referral from your GP is normally required to see a pulmonary specialist. Your GP sends it electronically, and it is held ready for the clinic in the national referral service. You book a time yourself, and we then collect your referral. So you do not need to wait to hear from us.

You have free choice of specialist and can choose the clinic with a referral, regardless of which region you live in.

A referral must be collected within 6 months of the date it was issued, and one referral covers up to 6 consultations (allergen immunotherapy excepted).

The clinic assesses and treats adults and adolescents. Patients under 18 are seen by prior agreement with the clinic.

With a valid referral and the clinic’s agreement (overenskomst) with Region Hovedstaden, you are seen under the public health insurance. For patients in health-insurance group 1 (the great majority), the consultation is free, as it is covered by the public health insurance (sygesikringen). If you are in group 2, you pay a share of the cost yourself.

You can also be seen as a self-payer (for example without a referral, or as a private or insurance patient) according to the clinic’s rates. If you are a group 2 member of Sygeforsikringen “danmark”, you can receive a small reimbursement towards specialist care from the scheme.

Are you unsure which group you are in or whether you have a valid referral? Your GP or your region can tell you, or you can ask the clinic.

Consultations can be held in Danish or English.

Private, insurance & employer health cover

If you have health insurance (for example through your employer) or wish to be seen without a referral, you can be booked as a private or insurance patient at the clinic’s rates. Clarify your cover with your insurer first, then contact the clinic. Consultations can be held in Danish or English.

Hours & phone times

When the clinic is open.

The clinic works with flexible times: mornings are by appointment, while the afternoons are kept open as drop-in for allergen immunotherapy and regular injections with the clinic's nurses. If you are already in an ongoing course, simply come by during opening hours; new patients book a time after referral.

The clinic continues Backers Klinik. If you are a patient there, your appointments and ongoing courses of treatment (including allergen immunotherapy) continue unchanged after 1 October 2026, and your medical record transfers automatically.

Opening hours

On the other days of the week, Emil Ingerslev Walsted is a staff specialist (afdelingslæge) in the Department of Respiratory and Infectious Diseases at Bispebjerg Hospital.

After your visit

How you get your results.

Lung function, FeNO and skin-prick tests are done here, and you get the result while you are still in the room.

Blood tests are analysed at a laboratory, and the result takes longer. We contact you when the answer is ready, also if the test is normal. The results can also be seen on sundhed.dk.

Your own doctor receives a letter with the diagnosis and the plan, so the follow-up can continue in general practice.

Cancellation

Cannot make it? Let us know in good time.

If you are prevented from attending, please cancel in good time, no later than the day before your appointment. That lets another patient take the slot, and it keeps waiting times down for everyone.

You can cancel by phone during phone hours, or on the clinic's answering machine around the clock.

Give your name and the time of the appointment. The message counts as a valid cancellation, and the answering machine is checked on Tuesday afternoons. When the patient portal opens, you will be able to cancel there as well.

Late cancellation and no-show

A fee of DKK 250 may apply for missed appointments or cancellations made too late, when stated in the clinic’s practice declaration (praksisdeklaration) on sundhed.dk. So please cancel your appointment if you cannot attend. This fee is not covered by the public health insurance (sygesikringen) and is paid by you. The clinic's practice declaration has not yet been created, so the fee is not charged.

Patient rights

Your rights as a patient.

Consent and self-determination
No examination or treatment is carried out without your informed consent. You decide over your own body, and you can decline or stop a treatment at any time. We explain the options and the reasoning so you can make an informed choice.
Confidentiality
Everyone at the clinic is bound by professional secrecy (tavshedspligt). Your information is shared with others only with your consent or where the law specifically allows it.
Access to your records
You are entitled to see your own medical record. A request for access is normally answered within 7 working days.
Free choice of hospital
If onward referral to a hospital is needed, you generally have free choice of hospital within the rules that apply.
Interpreter assistance
If you do not speak Danish, you have the right to interpreter assistance for the consultation under the applicable rules.

Complaints

If something went wrong.

If you are dissatisfied with your treatment, you are very welcome to talk to the clinic first. Many things are best resolved in a direct conversation, and we would like the chance to put it right.

Complaints about treatment

Complaints about the treatment itself are handled by the Danish Patient Complaints Agency (Styrelsen for Patientklager), phone 72 33 05 00. There you can read about deadlines and how to file a complaint.

Compensation for injury

If you have been harmed in connection with treatment, you can seek compensation through Patienterstatningen (the Danish Patient Compensation Association). This is a separate system from a complaint about treatment, and the two can be used independently of each other.

This page is informational and not legal advice. The relevant authorities can give you the precise, up-to-date rules and deadlines.

FAQ

I am a patient of Backers Klinik. What does that mean for me?
